Helping Rise Foundation Help the Homeless Bleed With Dignity

Because menstrual health is one giant barrier to achieving gender equality, we wanted to raise awareness about period poverty and the challenges that menstruators face. We decided to reach out to Rise Foundation e.V. , an organization that supports people affected by homelessness or poverty with food, personal items and human closeness and ask them if they were in need of menstrual products.

They said yes and we began to look for sponsors to help us. We reached out to Yoni, a wonderful organic menstrual product company in Amsterdam, to ask them to sponsor the project. Turns out, they loved our mission and agreed to provide enough product for the rest of the year. We also reached out to Jackson-Reece, a biodegradble wet wipes company, and they sent us 4000 sachets!

Starting in October 2020, hildashaus will support Rise with their bi-monthly assembly and distribution of menstrual health kits.

Timeline:

October 4th, 2020 - We held our first community event at Kora Mikino Menstrual Panty in Prenzlauer Berg. Before our 35 attendees helped assemble the menstrual kits, Denise Periera delivered a beautiful singing meditation and then asked all the attendees to write down their intentions for being there. There were so many attendees that we finished an hour early!

October 10th, 2020 - We had our first official distribution with Rise. Hildashaus volunteers were on hand to support the Rise volunteers. We split into group according to neighborhood and began distributing essential items to the homeless.
