JACK-Berlin e.V. is an education center for female refugees and asylum seekers in Germany. The center offers literacy courses, German classes, computer courses, cultural and social activities along with childcare service with the aim to strengthen the women’s autonomy and social participation

Hildashaus e.V. works in the front-line to approach women refugees or seeking asylum not as victims but as future guardians, leading their communities toward a more democratic society.

Research has consistently shown that refugees and asylum seekers are at a particular risk of mental health problems and low subjective well-being as a consequence of adverse or traumatic premigration and permigration experiences and as a result of post migration difficulties.

Thanks to the “Empowerment and Well Being program” JACK-Berlin’s community can fully focus on their physical and psychological barriers that still stand in their way, to ultimately reach their economic empowerment.

Hildashaus aims to provide JACK-Berlin’s community with tools and resources to organize and advocate for themselves and we advocate for their direct participation in decision-making bodies that are impacting their daily lives.  In this specific case, we sponsor “Trainer certifications” for the activities included in the program to those who have fully attended the program and express interest.

Art as a self care practice

Initiative developed by Dr. Joanna Wróblewska

In a safe and non-judgmental space for self-inquiry and self-growth, the group will work alongside two Expressive Art facilitators using the method of intermodal Expressive Arts. These sessions will enable the group to create more self-understanding, discover already existing resources, gently reconnect with their bodies, create valuable and meaningful relationships and find a place of belonging.
