Welcome home
Mission
Hildashaus e.V. is a Berlin-based non-profit working with and for FLINTA* individuals aged 40+ from the global majority who have experienced displacement, primarily from hard-to-reach groups facing intersecting and structural forms of discrimination including racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, linguistic exclusion and religious discrimination.
Through an intersectional, community-based, holistic, participatory and culturally sensitive approach that lowers barriers to access and overcomes language obstacles, we respond to the multidimensional realities of our community members, nurturing restorative wellbeing, fostering social cohesion and community care, and building pathways toward sustainable livelihoods.
Values
Intersectionality
We acknowledge the systemic and overlapping forms of oppression that shape our society, and the lack of social initiatives that truly address the multifaceted realities, knowledge, aspirations, and dreams of FLINTA* individuals aged 40+ who have experienced displacement, mostly from hard-to-reach groups.
To counter these challenges, we offer low-barrier, culturally sensitive, multilingual, and trauma-informed programs. We use visual tools, audio content, and simplified guides to support navigation across digital and physical spaces. Our formats are adapted to accommodate sensory and cognitive needs through slow pacing, repetition, breaks, and embodied practices. We provide childcare and transportation assistance when needed (and, unfortunately, financially possible).
Our intersectional feminist practice is embedded in every step. We meet individuals where they are, with care, clarity, and respect. By doing so, we foster belonging, visibility, and agency in ways that are tangible, lasting, and responsive to real-life concerns.
Listening
We listen deeply to the wishes, needs, and lived realities of our community and team members. We make sure that every voice is heard and can participate fully. This ensures that every project is born and grows from within the community, rather than being imposed from outside.
Community and Belonging
We believe that transformation happens in community. Our programs nurture meaningful relationships and shared ownership, creating spaces where everyone is both learner and teacher, giver and receiver.
Care and Safety
We cultivate emotional, physical, and collective safety as the foundation of all our work. Every space we create, whether a workshop or a gathering, is grounded in empathy, mutual respect and relational care.
Anti-Colonial and Decolonial Practice
We actively challenge colonial narratives and power structures that continue to shape institutions, knowledge systems and cultural production.
Our work re-centers lived experience, ancestral wisdom, and community knowledge as legitimate and vital forms of learning, creativity and transformation.
Holistic Transformative Wellbeing
We approach wellbeing as a transformative and continuous process that embraces the interconnectedness of body, mind, heart, and spirit. It is not a privilege but a collective right.
We challenge Eurocentric and individualistic notions of wellness, nurturing collective care practices rooted in cultural diversity, embodiment, interdependence and the right to rest.
Creativity and Cultural Authorship
We see creativity as a tool of liberation and a resistance to erasure. Through textile arts, storytelling, and media, we reclaim authorship over our narratives and cultural expressions, transforming personal and collective experiences into new forms of meaning and presence.
Sustainability and Shared Growth
We strive for models of work grounded in reciprocity, fair pay, and ecological awareness, building pathways toward sustainable livelihoods, shared growth, and long-term community resilience.
